Traditionally, black star diopside is believed to help heal emotional trauma, partly by bringing cleansing through tears, which is why it is sometimes called the crying stone. Its name comes from the Greek 'di' for two and 'opsis' for vision, and it is known as a gem of second sight. It is cut as a rounded cabochon to show off its shining four ray star.
